Federalisation of Indian Foreign Policy
- S.K. Jain
Abstract
A paradigm shift seems to be taking place with regard to the debate as to what should be the role of federating units in the making and implementation of foreign policy in a federation. A view is emerging that the foreign policy of a federal country ought to reflect its internal diversity, meaning thereby that the federating units should also have a role to play in the foreign policy sphere. Accordingly, the realities of the domestic political structure provide the constituent parts of a federal state with significant competence of their own to influence foreign policy in specified areas.
