Training and Consultancy :
In pursuance of the objective of disseminating knowledge and imparting training on the issues of federal governance in plural societies, the Centre has started programmes to this effect. On the basis of sponsorship and financial support to the programmes, the Centre organises courses/ summer institute/ training programmes. For such programmes the Centre invites resource persons of repute, besides its own expert faculty. The course / training module and study materials are prepared by the faculty. The study materials are intended to serve as basis of reference to the participants of the course.
The Centre organised various courses/training programmes:
A three-week summer course on competence building on federal governance was organised during April 2005 & 2006 for the senior civil servants of Sri Lanka. The Programme was sponsored by the Berghouf Foundation, Sri Lanka. The course was high rated in the evaluation by the participants and was well appreciated.
A weeklong vertical interaction programme, during the month of September 2005, was organised for the senior officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) on Policing and Minorities. Police officers from more than ten states and union territories participated in the course. The programme was sponsored by the Bureau of Police Research and Training, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi.
Prior to this, and sponsored by the G.T.Z. and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, the Centre's Faculty has been engaged in competence development programmes for civil servants and regional leaders of Ethiopia.
The Centre's Faculty has assisted the Consortium of Educational Communications of the University Grants Commission in reviewing and revising the multi-media courses on governance, Indian society and Indian administration, etc. The Faculty has also been associated in review of course content, developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training.
Prof. Akhtar Majeed, Director of the Centre, is a member of the Consultative Group on Inter-Governmental Relations (Inter-State Council) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India. He is one of the Theme Coordinators (Diversity) of the IVth International Conference on Federalism, at New Delhi, in 2007.
